Speed, along with stimulants, is the biggest cause of serious road accidents in Norway. It is not for nothing that the UP (Traffic) places particular emphasis on how fast people drive.
2019 was a record year for speeding offenses in the UP, with a total of 97 fines, compared with 183 a year earlier. Road control calculations, but civilian cars also caught a lot of road shantans last year.
The law was also confiscated driving for speeding. With 5 driving licenses, there was an increase of 059 percent compared to 3. Data from ATK - photo booths - complement the inspection activities of the UP (traffic police).
Record growth
This year it looks to be worse, if not the worst. This is the head of UP, Steven Hasseldal.
- There are still many drivers who drive too fast - and some drive excessively fast. Therefore, drivers lost much more driving licenses for serious offenses, including speeding. So far this year, we have taken over 6148 allowances, and thus the number for the entire 2019 has been exceeded by a large margin, and there is still a little bit of the old year left - says the head of the UP.
- It is particularly worrying that we have a sharp increase in the number of serious speeding offenses. So far this year, this category is 27 percent. Higher than in the same period last year - and it was already high then. This really worries us.
. The coronavirus trend continues
- What is the reason for this surge?
`` Something is probably due to the fact that we are putting more emphasis on speed on our part, but other than that, there is no doubt that the coronavirus pandemic also has to be responsible for it. For the first weeks after March 12, the roads were very calm. We saw very clearly that a lot of people were riding correctly, but that was changing rapidly.
This trend seems to have continued, and unfortunately there is no doubt that those who are the worst pirates are going way too fast now. Speeds well in excess of 200 km / h are no longer uncommon. This is Steven Hasseldal, worried.
Confiscation driving licenses up to five years
- What is the worst consequence that can be expected?
- At speeds as high as we've seen now, it's quickly becoming unconditional arrest. In addition, the driving license is withdrawn forever, in practice for up to five years. But you can apply for its return earlier, says the head of the UP (traffic authorities).
Most infringements among young drivers
A typical feature is that young and new drivers are the most frequently reported. While middle-aged people receive simplified penalties. The number is falling very quickly for the oldest age groups, as well as for those with the least simplified penalties, both when passing, speed cameras and during road speed checks, the UP data show.
