Norway is increasing its support for voluntary organizations in Poland. The aims include promoting democratic values, gender equality and securing the rights of vulnerable groups.

In spring, Norway and Poland negotiated the distribution of the remaining reserve of NOK 351 million

- A diverse and strong civil society is a prerequisite for a well-functioning democracy. Funds The EEA makes a significant contribution to this, both in Poland and in other recipient countries. It is good that some of the additional funds we have left behind can be used for this very purpose, says Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide.

In the spring, Norway and Poland negotiated the distribution of the remaining reserve of 351 million NOK. There is agreement to increase support for civil society by several percent. The money is placed on existing programs for this sector and is managed by organizations independent of the Polish authorities.

The EEA funds will also contribute to the strengthening of cooperation between Norway and Poland in many different sectors

The agreement also means that up to 10,3 million NOK will be allocated to training Polish judges under the auspices of the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights.

- We are concerned about the development of the rule of law in Poland. I hope that cooperation with the Council of Europe can increase the knowledge and competence of courts on European standards of the rule of law and human rights, says the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The EEA funds will also contribute to strengthening cooperation between Norway and Poland in many different sectors. Great emphasis was placed on this when dividing the remaining part of the reserve, including by prioritizing climate, research and business cooperation.
