Tesla has officially ended its bonus program. The program allowed Tesla owners to encourage their friends to buy a car, which ended with a bonus.
Tesla spent very little money on traditional marketing, instead relied on a bonus program to build demand around its cars. In the beginning, when they were a small start-up with one model on sale, it probably made more sense than it does today, when the company has four popular models and huge sales figures in Norway.

The rewards for recruiting new owners have changed drastically over the years. Tesla gradually diminished the benefits of these recruitments. For a few years you could get a free top-up for life and gradually it only became six months. In 2019, the bonus was reduced to only include 1500 free kilometers for both parties.
Tesla also donated a Model S and X to Norwegian Tesla enthusiast Bjørn Nyland as part of its recruitment campaign. The peak of the campaign was when the company promised free Tesla Roadster to anyone who managed to recruit 50 new Tesla owners. It is said that over 80 people around the world have managed this task. It was probably this situation that really made Tesla realize that they no longer needed such lucrative recruitment campaigns to sell their cars.
It was all the Roadsters and the low margins associated with the production of the Model 3 that caused Tesla to temporarily curtail its recruitment program in 2019. By changing the award to ensure only 1500 kilometers of recharge for both sides.
Tesla - no more bonuses
You can now read on the Tesla website that all purchases made after September 18, 2021 will no longer provide any additional reward. Purchases made prior to this, however, will still provide recruitment bonuses for the people involved.
In the United States, where Tesla sells solar panels, they will continue to offer recruitment bonuses for solar installations. However, here in It's over for Norway for now all recruitment bonuses from Tesla.
