These are the topics that were discussed at the meeting on Tuesday with the former Minister of Education and Integration, Guri Melby (V). This meeting was organized by Caritas Norge and was also attended by other media representing various ethnic minorities. You can find the recording of the conversation at the bottom of the article.
The conversation concerned the budget proposal that Venstre proposed for the new government. More specifically, we were talking about the part of the budget allocated to education and integration of foreigners in Norway.
Norwegian education, klippekortordning
The main topic of the meeting was a grant program called klippekortordning, it is a card that you can pay for a language course. It is worth adding that this is a program that was launched this year, with 30 million crowns allocated to the beginning.
The program aims to provide a targeted and flexible learning offer for immigrants. Primarily for those who need to improve their Norwegian language skills. This would be done by offering them a limited number of teacher-led language training hours.
Target groups
Klippekortordning's target group is adult immigrants with limited knowledge of the Norwegian language. First of all, people who need to learn it more, regardless of the length of stay in Norway and the reason for immigration.
Those who will have priority are those who have already exercised their right to free language learning. As well as people who are not entitled to the free language course. This right is governed by the Introduction Act or the Integration Act. Priority will also be given to participants who, in the long term or under the program, have the possibility to achieve level B1 or higher in Norwegian in speech and / or writing. Because these are the main goals of the grant program.
Klippekortordning is a grant program that is still in the process of being developed. Guri Melby stressed that if the government saw progress and positive results in language learning in immigrants, more money would be spent on developing the program.
In summary, the former minister hopes that the new government will continue to develop klippekortordning, and that it will bring excellent results for both immigrants and the state.
