King Harald presented the award to Professor Bjørn Tore Gjertsen, and last year's winner, Professor Bjarne Bogen. The award ceremony was held in the university hall in Oslo.
Gjertsen receives the King Olaf V Award for world-leading research into aggressive blood cancer. The financial prize is one million crowns.
The development of the research continued in practice for 40 years before Gjertsen's work ensured that both prognosis and treatment became much better for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), writes on his website Oncological Society .
Gjertsen is the Principal Physician at Haukeland University Hospital and a professor at the University of Bergen.
Bjarne Bogen received last year's award for contributing to the development of a personalized cancer vaccine.
The King Olav Vs Cancer Research Fund annually awards 1 million NOK a cancer researcher or group of researchers in the field of cancer who have contributed to promoting the quality and scope of Norwegian cancer research.
