A year after the pandemic broke out in Norway, nearly a third of those surveyed by the Norwegian Statistics Office said they were dissatisfied with their lives. This is an increase compared to the previous year.

- The decline in satisfaction between 2020 and 2021 indicates that the coronavirus situation and various infection control measures may have had a negative impact on the quality of life in Norway over time. When we conducted the survey in 2021, we lived with varying degrees of infection control measures throughout the year, says Statistics Norway adviser Kristina Strand Støren.

In a new quality of life survey Norwegian Office Statistical 21 percent of the population say they are very happy with their life in 2021, and 28 percent say quality has deteriorated significantly.

When the study was conducted in 2020. 26 percent answered that they are satisfied with life, and 22 percent. she replied that she was dissatisfied with her life.

Both in 2020 and 2021, the surveys were conducted in March.

We have become less satisfied with life

The results of this year's study show that the population experiences less meaning in life. She experiences less coping, less commitment, less satisfying relationships, less optimism for the future, and more negative emotions compared to 2020.

Støren, an advisor to the Norwegian statistical office, says that the difference between the survey years is not large for all indicators, but they are all statistically significant.

- It's not like everyone is worse off during a pandemic, but the numbers show a clear trend at the population level, says Støren.
