The Bar Association warns of a strike and will stop bringing cases to the Supreme Court from next week if the Storting fails to raise rates for legal aid.

Norwegian lawyers receive NOK 1085 per hour to help people who are in conflict with Nav, the police or social services. This is the lowest in Scandinavia, it reports NRK .

Lawyers who assist clients when the state takes over the bill are not allowed to negotiate the public rate. Now members of the Norwegian Bar Association will join a strike campaign to raise rates.

The Bar Association demands that defense lawyers receive NOK 1560 per hour. Additionally, lawyers want the right to negotiate the public rate legal aid.

- It is too early to say what consequences a possible complaint on behalf of the Bar Association may have. For now, we are registering that this will not apply to already planned cases, ie those that have already been entered on the list of cases - says SN director Bente J. Kraugerud.

The Ministry of Justice and Crisis Preparedness did not want to comment on the matter.
