The government will spend nearly a billion kronor lowering ferry prices starting from the New Year.

- We will make a strong move in ferry prices, where we will reduce them by 30%. In total, we are allocating nearly one billion kronor to this, he said VG Transport Minister Jon-Ivar Nygård.

The price reduction of 30 percent is compared to the rates applied on 01.01.2021/XNUMX/XNUMX.

But on July 1, ferry prices fell by 25%. That is why the government is proposing even bigger cuts from the New Year. The question is how much will it be?

- Fraud

FRP Terje Halleland has reacted strongly to the government bragging about a 30 percent cut-off.

- It's pure scam and misleading people, he thinks and calculates the government cut for the actual 5%.

In February, almost all of the then opposition joined forces to order the government to develop a plan to halve the price of ferries later this year. Behind them were both the Labor Party, the Center Party and the Progress Party, as well as SV and Rødt.

After FRF negotiations with the Solberg government on a revised state budget this spring, the country cut prices by 25 percent on July 1.

Halleland thinks it would be more appropriate for the government to compare the prices travelers are paying today.

- We're honest!

The Minister of Transport and Communications categorically denies that they are misleading anyone.

- We spoke clearly and honestly, says Nygård through his political advisor at the NTB.

He refers to the wording on the Hurdal platform where the Labor Party and the Center Party promise a 50% cut. compared to the level on January 1, 2021.

"Unlike the previous government, we intend to do this," he says.

Nygård says it has no data on how much lower ferry prices will be compared to current prices.
