Record high inflation in the euro area

In the 19 countries that make up the euro area, inflation in November amounted to 4,9%. This is the highest number since statistics began in 1997.

Eurostat data indicate a further rapid increase in prices, which is mainly due to growth energy prices. According to Eurostat's first estimates, they increased by 27,4 percent in November compared to November last year.

The inflation rate is more than twice the European Central Bank's target of 2 percent per year. EU leaders are due to discuss energy prices at their December summit.
