Sales of "ugly Christmas sweaters" on Christmas shopping have more than doubled

Only in the last five weeks the percentage of so-called ugly Christmas sweaters. Their sales in Norway increased by a whopping 152 percent compared to the same period last year. This is demonstrated by Klarna's sales statistics from over 12 online stores.  

- It is rare for clothing that is sold as ugly to perform as well in Norway as "ugly Christmas sweaters". It has become a great trend that is growing every year. "The greater popularity is probably due to the" ugly Christmas sweater "many people have at work, but also because many, perhaps especially nowadays, want to get a good Christmas mood by wearing a Christmas sweater, says Klarna Norway's marketing director Tomasz Elvestad.

Next Friday is the National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day, an unofficial, international day with many people wearing an ugly Christmas sweater.

Even stronger growth in the last two weeks

According to the Klarna shopping index *, development shows that the proportion of Christmas sweaters sold increased with each passing week. In the last 2 weeks it is as much as 230% more than in the same time last year.

According to a global survey conducted by Klarna in 18 countries, including the Scandinavian countries, the US, Australia and much of Western and Southern Europe, 42 percent of Norwegians say they like ugly Christmas sweaters. More and more women and younger people under 40 years of age likes fashionable Christmas clothes.

The United States and the United Kingdom are countries where most people like sweaters, while Germany and Italy are the least enthusiastic.

The best seller is a red reindeer sweater with LED lighting

A Christmas sweater that first appeared in the 50s and was called commercially "sweaters with bells". It didn't really become really popular until the 80's, when it appeared more and more on television and in movies.

In Norway, their best seller this year was a red Christmas sweater with a reindeer motif, LED lighting and the words "Make it Rein".
