From 1 January 2022, the quota will change for what can be imported into Norway without customs clearance. From next year, the possibility of replacing the tobacco quota with 1,5 liters of wine or extra beer will disappear.

What can I bring into Norway without customs clearance?

The table below shows four examples of how much one person can take with them a maximum of different alcohol products from January 1, 2022.

Tax-free quota (various alternatives) from 1 January 2022:

Alcohol quota (liters): Amount 1 or 2 or 3 or 4

  1.    1 l brennevin * + 1,5 l wine + 2 l beer
  2.    3 liters of wine + 2 liters of beer
  3.    5l of beer
  4.    1 liter of brennevin * and 3,5 liters of beer

Tobacco amount:

200 cigarettes and/ or 250 grams of other tobacco + 200 pieces of cigarette papers and tubes

What items does the change affect?

  • Items purchased duty-free, i.e. items purchased duty-free on airplanes, airports and ferries, if you were out of the country for more than 24 hours
  • Items you bring to Norway after shopping in another country, e.g. systembolaget in Sweden

Use the Kvoteappen app while traveling. Changes from 1 January 2022

Quoteappen is a handy tool for anyone traveling. This app helps when you need to see the applicable limit. It also calculates how much you have to pay if you go over the limit. As a result, you can also clear customs and pay in the app.

The application can be downloaded via the App Store / Google Play. (Link: https://www.toll.no/no/verktoy/kvoteappen/)

*Any drink containing 22% by volume alcohol or more is considered in Norway for brennevin, i.e. for strong alcohol (like liqueur or vodka).
