The infection in Norway is likely to rise sharply soon. The FHI encourages unvaccinated people to come to vaccination centers in the new year for 1 dose. For risk groups and all over 45 years of age, it must be ensured that a refresher dose is received 4,5 months (20 weeks) after the last dose of the vaccine.

- It's urgent. We expect a large wave of infections right after the New Year. The risk of contracting an infection is now greater than ever. Vaccinations protect well against serious diseases. Therefore, I am asking those who have so far refused to vaccinate to think again. They are ready to administer the first dose in all municipalities in the country, says FHI's director Camilla Stoltenberg, and continues:

When so many people become infected in a short period of time, the risk of becoming seriously ill will be greater than ever for those who have not been vaccinated.

Possible very high burden for health care

A large number of sick patients at the same time may pose a heavy burden on municipal hospitals health service and society as a whole. The unvaccinated now make up half of people admitted to hospitals with Covid-19.

"That is why we encourage all unvaccinated people to come to the vaccination centers in the new year to start vaccination," says director Camilla Stoltenberg at FHI.

The omicron variant is currently leading to a new wave of infections and hospitalization in many European countries. Municipalities and hospitals are preparing for this wave to arrive in Norway in January.

“We now probably have a short delay before the infection surges. We have to take advantage of this to vaccinate as many people as possible who are waiting for the first, second or third dose of the vaccine, says Camilla Stoltenberg.

Anyone can receive a refreshment 4,5 months after the second dose of the vaccine

Risk groups and everyone over 45 years of age should be shown to receive a refreshment dose if 4,5 months (20 weeks) have passed since the last dose.

- If 20 weeks have passed since the second dose of the vaccine, any person over 18 years of age can receive a refreshment dose. We are particularly interested in ensuring that risk groups and everyone over 45 receive a refreshing dose. There is no shortage of vaccines, and the municipalities are doing a very good job of offering vaccinations throughout the country. So my call for the new year is: come and get vaccinated! says director Camilla Stoltenberg at FHI.
