Høyre's party is concerned that the police will buy drones from China. The Minister of Justice is now summoning the Police Director for an extraordinary meeting on the matter.

- The police are in the process of buying drones that the US authorities advise against using. We cannot have Chinese drones on Norwegian police patrols if it poses a security risk, he said in an interview with NRK Conservative Party spokesman for judicial policy, Sveinung Stensland.

Stop the purchase of Chinese drones by the police

It was recently announced that the police will buy drones for NOK 100 million from the company DJI based in Beijing. Stensland asks Minister of Justice Emilie Enger Mehl (Sp) to suspend the tender procedure until the security threat is clarified.

Before this is cleared up, you should avoid buying Chinese surveillance equipment for use with the Norwegian police, says Stensland.

The Minister of Justice points out that the tender process began under the rule of Erna Solberg.

- I also asked for information that is disturbing to be verified. I expect the police to make a new security risk assessment if necessary, says Mehl.

Following what was described as a successful pilot project, it was decided in 2020 that all police districts in Norway will be able to use drones in their work.
