Now you can receive an SMS alert when the country's most landslide-prone and closed roads have to close.

“The aim is to provide a good information offering to those who use these sections on a daily basis so that they can easily access information about closures and openings,” says product owner and chief engineer Frode Kvam.

The service is especially important where avalanche control devices are located to inform when road closures are planned for controlled and preventive triggering of avalanches.

We can reduce the number of cars entering avalanche-prone areas

– Avalanches are often difficult to predict and can start without our preparation. By notifying road users as soon as possible, we can reduce the number of cars entering avalanche-prone areas and provide more predictability for those who drive avalanche-prone sections every day, says Knut Inge Orset of the Norwegian Public Roads Authority.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has previously offered SMS alerts for closed mountain passes, bridges and tunnels. In addition to landslide-prone roads, several bridges and tunnels have also recently been added to the service.

“We know that the closure of a tunnel or a bridge has serious consequences in people's daily lives. By receiving notifications of planned closures and closures that occur from time to time, you have a better opportunity to deal with the consequences. We also received feedback that the SMS notification service contributes to greater peace of mind for drivers, explains Kvam.

You can also download the Vegvesen Trafikk app. There you will receive traffic information and alerts in the areas you define. If you prefer to receive notifications directly to your mobile phone, download the application.
