Three customers in Sparebanken Sør were robbed for an amount of NOK 600. This happened after they were tricked into calling a phone number that the scammers had been using.

In the fraud attempt, which apparently targeted 52 bank customers, an SMS was sent asking account holders to contact the bank on special number 800. The message that bank customers received was that there was fraudulent activity on their accounts.

The attack differs from previous attempts where thousands of text messages were sent in order to deceive as many people as possible.

The callers were greeted by a woman who was supposed to help them stop the fraud. They were asked to provide personal information, bank ID and password.

- As a result, the scammers got everything they need to log into the online bank. While the female scammer talks to the client to "help", the account is drained of money. And with everything that can be available under a flexible loan, says Security Manager Åsmund Myklevoll at Sparebanken Sør.

Shortly after the interviews, the longest of which lasted 23 minutes, the bank's customers had a bad feeling and called the bank's customer service center. There they managed to stop the money transfer. Telenor blocked 800 number.
