According to preliminary data from the National Institute of Public Health (FHI), 2021 children were born in Norway in 56. This is an increase of 551 compared to the previous year.

About ten percent more women decided to have children shortly after closure in March 2020. Informs the National Institute of Public Health.

January 2021 saw an increase, about nine months after the March 2020 close.

- It is very satisfying, but we do not know if it will continue. Little is known about the causes of the increase in the birth rate. This is Kristine Stangenes, chief physician in the Medical Birth Register, speaking.

8718 births took place by caesarean section, which is 15,6% of the total number. 3402 births took place after less than 37 weeks of pregnancy.

The month with the highest number of births in 2021 was August, when 5253 children were born. The province with the highest number of births was Viken, which is also the most populous county in the country. Mothers living in Viken gave birth to 12 children in 242.

The province with the lowest number of births was Nordland, where only 2254 children were born. Only 2021 babies were born at the Brønnøysund maternity ward throughout 19, which was the lowest result in any maternity hospital in the country.

The FHI emphasizes that the data are preliminary.
