Norway is one of the countries that recognize education obtained in other countries of the European Union on the basis of being part of the EEA (European Economic Area). However, this does not apply to regulated professions (profession which is allowed to be performed after meeting the requirements set out by legal provisions). Is the Polish diploma in Norway recognized?
Polish diploma in Norway
Polish diploma in Norway is recognized, but not always. When applying for a job in unregulated profession, where the employer himself decides to recognize our qualifications, we do not need to have a diploma recognized. However, in the case of regulated professions, we must ourselves seek recognition for our education.
EU Directive 2005/36 / EC
According to EU Directive 2005/36 / EC, aby work in Norway the so-called regulated profession, must be obtained recognition our professional qualifications obtained in Poland. This recognition applies not to the diploma itself, but to the full powers professional.
NOKUT (Norwegian Nasjonalt organ for quality and utdanning) is a state body dealing with, inter alia, comparing higher education from abroad to the Norwegian education system and there we can get all the information about the recognition of our diploma. This entity also provides information whether the profession for which we are applying is regulated profession, or unregulated.

Polish diploma in Norway - NOKUT recognition
The first step is creation profile on the site NOKUT. If we can't log through MinID , we must additionally authenticate our identity. In the tabs, select: Recognition of higher foreign education, attach the documents listed below and send the application.
Required documents when applying for recognition of higher education:
Documents from high school (in Polish):
- Secondary school-leaving certificate - secondary school
- Secondary school-leaving certificates - high school or technical high school or vocational high school or technical college
- Maturity certificate of the Secondary Music School, Fine Arts Secondary School or the Ballet School
Documents from the university (in Polish):
- Higher education diploma
- Diploma Supplement (if you have one)
- Index / excerpt from the index / extract from the index (if you do not have a diploma supplement)
Other documents
- Translations of the above-mentioned documents (recognized English and Scandinavian languages)
- Name change confirmation (if any)
- ID document scan
The process of recognizing a university diploma z rule continues od 1,5 months to 2-3 from the date of submission of a complete application.
This is not a nostrification!
Nostrification - in the Norwegian nomenclature recognition, is the recognition of a diploma on the basis of 100% compliance of the study program in both countries, i.e. in the country where we obtained our education and in Norway. Due to the fact that this is impossible, we receive recognition of the academic title and level of studies.
Worth including in your CV
If our Polish diploma in Norway has been recognized, such information should be included in the CV. Recognition of our education increases our value as a candidate for a given position.

Norwegian employers are often unaware of the subject education values, or professional qualifications obtained in Poland, and thus - they do not appreciate it Polish workers. Therefore, it is worth looking for information on the recognition of our education and, whenever possible, apply for recognition of diplomas by an authorized state body.
It is also worth knowing that the decision to recognize the diploma is valid only in the country where it was issued.
