Light rainfall has long led to less water in Oslo's water supply areas. The commune asks the inhabitants to save water.

- Our water reservoirs, which are connected to Maridalsvannet, are now relatively low. In order to prevent water shortages in the future, we see that we must ask the people of Oslo to restrain their use of water. Anna Maria Aursund, director of the Water and Sewerage Office in Oslo, says in the press release.

The municipality encourages residents to take shorter showers, turn off the tap while brushing their teeth, use the eco program on the dishwasher, collect the laundry until the washing machine is full, and use the "little button" on the toilet when flushing.

The Water and Sewerage Authority has initiated measures to provide more water. Activities such as the transmission of water from the municipality of Bærum and the Nedre Romerike waterworks, 200 and 100 liters per second respectively. Further measures will be considered on an ongoing basis if there is no more rainfall this winter.

- The fact that we have to save water shows how sensitive the current supply is and how important it is to build a new water pipe from Holsfjorden. Everything for the safety of Oslo's people in the future, says Aursund.

The water supply of the municipality of Oslo comes mainly from Maridalsvannet and related rivers and lakes in the countryside. One of them is Gjerdingen, which is currently being drained for dam rehabilitation. Regular fall and spring and snow thaws are essential for a safe water supply throughout spring and summer.
