and young women may appear on snuff boxes. Norway will gain approval for such labeling in the Tobacco Directive.
- I am pleased that Norway has gained support for the need to inform young women about the health risks of using snus during pregnancy. This is the Minister of Health and Welfare Ingvild Kjerkol (Labor).
– We have seen negative developments in many young women who have started taking snus. Many of them are unable to stop once they become pregnant. It is important that they learn that using snus during pregnancy may increase the risk of birth defects and stillbirth.
The Tobacco Directive entered into force in the EU in 2016, but its incorporation into the EEA Agreement has been delayed for various reasons. According to the plan, it will take place on February 4.
The directive regulates, inter alia, what health warnings to appear on tobacco products and how to design and sell e-cigarettes.
