"Train as if you were fighting." The first of two annual DYNAMIC GUARD exercises began this weekend. From February 20 to 24, the ships will exercise their missile defense capabilities.

The exercise was prepared for NATO's Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), in addition to NATO national units. The goal is to train tactical missile defense in demanding electromagnetic environments. The aim is to maximize the competences of individuals within a certain period of time.

Units from Poland, Spain and Germany also participate in the exercises

The exercise itself is not focused on a specific scenario, but consists of several individual challenges, each of which has an increasing degree of difficulty. The training ground is located off the west coast of Norway. Norway is the host country of the exercise. Units from Poland, Spain and Germany also participate in the exercises. Several of these participants will have a stopover at the port in central Bergen before the exercise.

-  This is a unique opportunity to test operators in realistic situations and see how they assess the situation. This forces them to make the right decision in self-defense, both for themselves and for the rest of the fleet - in fact says Commander of the NATO Standing Naval Forces, Rear Admiral Thorsten Marx.

Multinational Task Force

DYNAMIC GUARD is not only a good opportunity to train in high-intensity warfare in a multinational task force, but also to work together with NATO to strengthen the readiness, coherence and network of the alliance.

-  Norwegian sea waters give us a lot of space to perform these treatments in an undisturbed and safe way. At the end of the week, all participating units will reach a new level of readiness, concludes the rear admiral.

DYNAMIC GUARD is NATO's six-monthly electronic warfare exercise. They are devoted to tactical surface training for the NATO Joint Very High Readiness Task Force (VJTF) and NATO National Units.
