A record contract for the Norwegian defense industry

Forsvarsmateriell and Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace sign today a contract to supply missiles for the Norwegian F-35. "With this agreement, we ensure the key performance of our new fighters," says Defense Minister Odd Roger Enoksen.

The record contract is worth four billion crowns

Today's missile contract shows that we have a competitive defense industry, says Defense Minister Odd Roger Enoksen. Work on the JSM (Joint Strike Missile) began in 2009. A year after the F-35 was selected as Norway's next fighter.

“Thanks to the collaboration between the armed forces, FFI and industry, we have developed a new weapon system. It gives the armed forces and the Norwegian authorities completely new opportunities that neither Norway nor other defense systems of our size had previously had, ”says Enoksen.

This agreement is important for both the defense sector and the Norwegian industry

The first missiles will be delivered in 2023, and deliveries are planned for several years.

- Commencement of serial production will ensure jobs for a long time. It will also create value for both Kongsberg and its subcontractors. This makes it an important agreement both for the defense sector, and therefore also for Norwegian industry. Together with it, it is a contribution to the implementation of the adopted strategy of the national defense industry - says Mette Sørfonden, director of Defense Materiel.
