In Oslo, older people must be able to live and move around actively and freely. All residents must have access to the entire city to be able to safely use public transport. Therefore, the city council proposes that the Pink Buses pilot project become a permanent program.

Pink buses offer older people the opportunity to participate in society on an equal footing with others

Pink buses offer residents over 67 years of age the option of door-to-door transportation from their own home to locations within the bus route. This is how buses deliver older people the opportunity to participate in life society on an equal basis with others, provide them with safe transport and a greater social community.

- With the pink buses, the municipality tested a transport solution that gave many older people more opportunities for a more independent and active life. We can see that the offer with these buses works well. That's why we propose to make it a permanent deal, says Robert Steen, City Councilor for Health, Elderly and Citizenship.

For this purpose, NOK 26,4 million will be set aside in 2022, NOK 29 million in 2023 and NOK 34 million from 2024. It is an elderly-friendly transport Ruter - Pink Buses.

It has been a permanent offer since 2022. Transportation is available to travelers 67 years of age and older

The City Council launched the offer in 2017, gaining more and more users and expanding the route area with new districts. From 2022, it is a permanent offer in Vestre Aker, Nordre Aker, Ullern, Sagene, Bjerke, Alna and Marka. Transportation is available to travelers 67 years of age and older.

More and more people are using pink buses, and in August a new record of more than 6000 journeys was set. Since 2017, the buses have made more than 140 trips and currently have over 000 unique customers. From 4000, the offer will be extended to another district.

- I know that this offer is important for many elderly people in the city who can no longer drive on their own or cannot use regular public transport. The new offers that are changing the daily lives of people in our city are the result of the political priorities of the city council, concludes Steen.
