In accordance with the nomination procedure for a candidate for the post of judge at the EFTA Court, the nomination will now be forwarded to the other EEA/EFTA States, Iceland and Liechtenstein before the three countries jointly decide to appoint the ESA/Judicial Committee to the Court.
What is EFTA?
EFTA (European Free Trade Association) is an international organization that brings together four European countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
An EFTA court is a court that has the task of settling disputes arising from trade agreements and other agreements between the EFTA and other countries or international organizations. The judges of the EFTA Court are nominated by the EFTA Member States and then elected by the EFTA Council.
Appointment as a judge in EFTA usually requires legal education, experience in working in the judiciary and knowledge of international law. Candidates must also have a good command of English and French as these are the official languages of the EFTA Court.
