- It is normal for house prices to rise significantly in January, i.e. January effect. However, the rise in house prices in January this year is the strongest in the history of house price statistics. This growth is widespread across the country, says Eiendom Norge CEO Henning Lauridsen.

New data presented by Eiendom Norge, Eiendomsverdi and Finn.no on Thursday shows that house prices in Norway increased by 4,8 percent in January. After taking into account seasonal fluctuations, prices increased by 2,1%.

Lauridsen says the strong growth has to be seen in relation to the supply side of the housing market.

- At the beginning of the year, there were few flats on the market, and in January the number of new flats on the market dropped significantly compared to the previous years. The number of unsold homes is much lower than in January 2017, when the housing market was booming, says Lauridsen.
