The new governmental energy commission will, inter alia, map the country's energy needs and propose to increase energy production. The aim is for Norway to continue to have excess energy production and that Norwegian industry and Norwegian electricity consumers still have ample access to renewable energy.
- The task of the committee concerns matters of key importance for the development of our country - says the secretary of LO Are Tomasgard, who is one of the members of the committee.
– We must have bearable ones electricity prices for people, this is crucial. And we must have ample access to electricity at reasonable prices for industry. We will maintain and further develop the existing industry and develop new branches of it, says Tomasgard.
Workplaces are important
- It is basically about jobs, both those that we have and those that we will create - adds the secretary of the LO.
Norway also has climate commitments that must be met.
– In the international trade union movement we call it a fair change. We won't be successful if people don't have good i secure job, where they could go, says Are Tomasgard.
– Access to electricity at reasonable Norwegian prices prices will be crucial for Norway to do their part of the job. We have a long tradition of cooperation in professional life and with the authorities. We have to deal with this, says Tomasgard.
The committee has 15 members and will be chaired by Professor Lars Sørgaard. The Commission will present a comprehensive report to the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy by December 15, 2022.
