- The government wants a stronger social school. It's historic! At the same time, we put even greater emphasis on working on improving quality, says the minister of education, Tonje Brenna.
The government has ambitions to raise the quality and lower the price of the extra-curricular activities program. The government will build on the work on the national framework plan introduced in autumn 2021 and focus on strengthening the competences of employees in order to improve the quality of the SFO.
The first step in making the SFO more accessible to all is to provide all first year children with a free SFO for 12 hours a week. This means that those who are part-time, which is up to 12 hours a week, will get it for free. This means that the price for a full-time offer will also be cheaper for everyone.
We want all children to have an SFO offer every day
- We want the communes to have a lot of room for maneuver to develop the SFO offer to suit local needs. We want all children to have an SFO offer every day. It is important that parents can participate in professional life and that no one is left behind, says the Minister of Education.
The consultation proposal stipulates that the free hours will be distributed on days the SFO is normally open. If municipalities have SFO offers during the holidays then there must also be a free offer.
It focuses on competences
The 2018 SFO National Assessment revealed that every fourth SFO employee has never participated in any form of competence development activities.
- The most important factor of the good quality of the SFO offer is the competence of employees - says the Minister of Education and Science. Therefore, we allocated 10 million in the state budget for the development of competency offers for SFO.
