Every year, on August 1, we pay tribute to the heroes, insurgents who gave their lives for free and independent Poland.

Anniversary initiatives, educational campaigns and cultural events are organized all over Poland. The purpose of the celebrations is to commemorate the heroic deeds of the Warsaw insurgents.

Hour "W"

At. Sirens will sound all over the country at 17:00 p.m. In this way, Poles, especially Warsaw residents, will pay tribute to the insurgents at the time of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. The central celebration of the "W Hour" will take place at the Gloria Victis Monument at the Powązki Military Cemetery.

The uprising lasted 63 days

On August 1, 1944, the Warsaw Uprising broke out in Warsaw and lasted 63 days. The uprising was organized by the Home Army as part of Operation Storm. It was directed against the German occupation. The uprising consumed approx. 200 thousand people. victims. As a result of military actions and post-insurrection repressions, 70% of the city's area was destroyed. The main goal of the Warsaw Uprising was to emphasize the post-war sovereignty of Poland.
