– After years of high inflation and increasingly higher interest rates, higher wages are most important to our members. The condition is that wages increase more than inflation. The requirement is to increase purchasing power. Our task will be not to let them down, Følsvik said.

A reasonable and solid payroll settlement is therefore possible

– Export revenues are historically high and production is experiencing good times. Then those who helped create these values, the members of the Norwegian Trade Union Confederation, will have their share in creating the values.

There is room for a good and solid wage settlement, but we are ready to go on strike

Peggy Hessen Følsvik, president of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions, said at the Council of Representatives of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions on February 20:

“When the LO was founded in 1899, point number two, after we were to gather the unions under one umbrella, was that the LO should, in a planned way, support individual unions that were unable to conduct the approved struggle on their own.

We should stick together, especially when it comes to conflict. We have been doing this ever since, and last year's strike clearly demonstrated this.

We stood together, fought and won! A historic strike that produced a historic result. The fighting spirit, unity and brotherhood that we saw then encouraged us.

We saw LO organizers from different federations and industries standing together in a common demand. For fair pay and smaller differences.

Employers then said it was an unnecessary strike. I completely disagree with this. It was absolutely necessary.

It showed that our community is strong. We use this force when lifting in herdsto raise the whole herd. Entire team. And it works.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This strike showed that those who had the greatest fighting power took up the fight for those who did not have the same strength.

The strike showed solidarity and unity of our herd. (…) We are ready to fight again.

We are ready to go on strike to get what is just, what is right!”

Central salary negotiations

Every year, the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) and the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprises (NHO) meet for central wage negotiations. This is what we call the tariff settlement and this is where it is decided how much of an increase we will get this year.

This year we are dealing with the so-called main settlements, within which both wage regulations and regulations of all other provisions of collective agreements are negotiated.

The meeting takes place at the Oslo Congress Center and is broadcast live by LOtv.
