More energy production and higher prices

After a record low production capacity in Norway in the last week of 2022, last week production increased by almost 40%. Even so, production was still low for the time of year. Reservoir filling has fallen by 1,9 percentage points and is now 3,6 percentage points below the median.

Norway was also a net importer of electricity last week. Net imports were 234 GWh, down almost 600 GWh from the previous week, but roughly the same as in week 51. Wind power production in countries around us fell last week, contributing to a decline in energy imports . After low consumption during the holiday week, last week's consumption has returned to its usual levels for this time of year.

Energy prices rose last week in all price areas in Scandinavia and on the continent. Median Norway saw the highest growth in Norway by 86 percent, resulting in a weekly price of 85 øre/kWh. One reason for the large increase was the influence of prices from Sweden at certain times during the week. In southern Norway, prices increased the least, but despite the low increase, the weekly price of around 124 øre/kWh was still among the highest in northern Europe.

Reports of hydropower producers in southern Norway

In southern Norway, there are 10 producers who submit reports with information about the production and filling of the tanks. In total, these reports include data from 63 power plants. These power plants have a combined storage capacity of 43,7 TWh, which is 76 percent of the total storage capacity in southern Norway.
