According to the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom), extreme weather "Hans" leads to several challenges for Norway. In some places, internet and mobile phone coverage is now limited or has completely disappeared. On the Nkom website you will also find information reported by operators about places where failures occurred.
- Nkom is receiving reports that there is insufficient or complete loss of access to the Internet and mobile devices in several areas. Both Telenor, Telia and Ice are on standby and working to fix bugs, but accessing the damage inspection and fixing the problem is difficult.
Power outages are reported in several places, and base stations must have power to function. All base stations have 2-4 hours of power reserve. In some areas, there is enhanced ECOM which contributes to base stations around the city center having 72 hours of power reserve. Further measures are currently being worked on to address the situation where people do not have insurance. It is especially important that people are able to contact the emergency services.
- Remember that you can also call the emergency services, even if you do not have cellular network coverage of your mobile company. This still assumes there is cellular coverage from at least one mobile company where you are, says Lindeberg.
Nkom is monitoring the situation and will update the information
Suppliers report major accessibility issues on the roads, making it difficult to reach locations and estimate delivery times. The results shown below are valid from August 10 at 09:15. Nkom is following the situation closely and will update if there are any changes to the situation.
As long as there is coverage of at least one mobile operator in a given area, it is possible to call emergency numbers while roaming with other operators who have coverage. Rectification information is provisional and subject to change quickly due to the nature of the situation.
