The Chief of Police of Tromsø County has made a key decision regarding the safety of residents of the Oldervika/Moen area in Tromsø Municipality. The area will be evacuated from 21 p.m. on Sunday, March 00. This information was published today at 17:20 by Tromsø Police District.

Safety is the Top Priority

The evacuation is a response to an avalanche threat identified by the National Agency for Water and Energy (NVE) and the avalanche monitoring company Wyssen. The presence of large amounts of loose snow on the slopes, combined with forecast snowfall on Sunday evening, creates the risk of potentially dangerous avalanches. The threat is rated at red level, which requires immediate security measures.

Plan for the Coming Days

The next assessment of the situation is planned for Tuesday, March 19, in the morning. The police and the municipality of Tromsø are already contacting the residents of approximately 12 properties that are located in the evacuation area. A police patrol is on site to provide support and safety during the evacuation process.

Information for residents

Residents of the affected area are asked to secure a place to live, first by contacting family, friends or using their insurance company. If further support is needed, residents can contact Tromsø Municipality on: 90 20 75 73.

If anyone needs immediate help, please contact the police on the emergency number 02800 or 112.

Changes in Road Traffic

Vegtrafikksentralen announced that the road between Snarby and Oldervika will be closed at 01:00. It is recommended to follow current traffic updates.

For the safety of all residents, please remain vigilant and follow the instructions provided by the relevant services.
