Easter in Poland - reflection on life and death ...

For Polish Catholics, Easter has a strong spiritual dimension. A time of reflection on life and death, on transience. Finally, over your relationship with loved ones. Christmas time begins on Palm Sunday, which symbolizes Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. The Easter Triduum has been celebrated in the Catholic Church since Thursday. On Saturday, a compulsory family walk to church - in order to bless Easter dishes.

Sunday morning is a time for loved ones. Shared breakfast: on the table there are dedicated dishes: ham, white sausage, butter lamb, Easter eggs - painted by the youngest members of the family. After breakfast, the children look for a Christmas bunny that leaves small gifts for them - usually sweets. "Wet Monday" (Smigus-Dyngus). The tradition of pouring water over oneself - is a bit of a departure now. However, it is a very nice habit and it is worth cultivating.

Easter in Norway - Påske

As for Catholics in Poland, and for Norwegians - Easter has a more religious, spiritual atmosphere than Christmas. The Christmas week (Den stille uke) runs from Palm Sunday to the second day of Christmas. Even though it officially starts on Thursday, many Norwegians take three days off early to spend time with their family and relax. On Good Friday the Way of the Cross is organized. Holy Saturday is the time of blessing baskets. On this day, Norwegian children can eat sweets as much as they want and look for chocolate eggs (Påskeegg) in the garden. The chocolate eggs were cleverly hidden by the Easter Bunny (Påskehare).

Christmas Monday in Norway relaxing outdoors

Christmas Monday is, of course, a family Christmas breakfast. Eggs must necessarily appear on the table. Most of the additives are yellow. It is worth mentioning here that the color yellow is considered a symbol of Easter in Norway. After breakfast, it's time to relax and unwind. Norwegians love to spend time outdoors - a trip outside the city (Påsketur) for a skiing trip.

Easter traditions in Norway and criminal literature in the background ...

Norwegians love crime fiction - it does not surprise anyone. There is also a "criminal" tradition associated with the Easter season, which dates back to the 20s. At that time, a unique book had its premiere - "Bergenstoget plyndret i natt" ("The pillaged night train to Bergen"). A chilling story that immediately became a hit! Since then, during the Easter season, the Norwegians have been publishing new criminal books and also reading them.
