In 2022, the state allocated almost 32,6 billion crowns for energy support for Norwegian households. For the average household in south-west Norway, this means that society covered around 26 SEK in the electricity bill for a whole year.

“In Norway, we support each other in difficult times. Energy support is good and helps those who need it. The government announced that the energy support program will also be extended until the end of 2024," said Terje Aasland, Minister of Oil and Energy.

The largest amount was paid out in December, amounting to around 8,5 billion crowns. From January to November, a total of around 24,1 billion kronor was paid out. The highest electricity prices in 2022 were recorded in July, August and September. In July, 1,5 billion crowns were paid out for energy support, in August 3,65 billion crowns and in September 4,55 billion crowns.

Households in southern Norway received energy support every month in 2022. In December, the entire country received energy support due to higher electricity prices also in central and northern Norway.

Since some energy companies did not invoice customers on a monthly basis, we will only know after a few months how much energy support was paid out in each month.

It is estimated that for 2023, the projected costs of the energy support program may amount to approximately CZK 44,7 billion, according to the current shape of the program. This means that the total expenditure on energy support in 2022 and 2023 may amount to more than 70 billion crowns.
