If your vehicle is deregistered, you must remember to re-register before using it.

You can do it on vegvesen.no/dinside. You must have valid insurance to register your vehicle.

– Don't forget to register your motorcycle, RV or other vehicle before using it. Even if you kept tables, driving a deregistered vehicle is illegal and can have serious consequences for you, says Heidi Øwre, section leader at the Norwegian Road Administration.

NOK 5000 penalty

If you use a vehicle that has been deregistered, you will be charged NOK 5000 and the plates will be confiscated. If you have been involved in an accident with an uninsured vehicle, you may also be held financially liable.

On September 12 last year, it became possible to deregister and re-register vehicles via the Internet and to keep registration plates. Previously, you had to drive to vegvesen to deliver and then pick up the plates.

Checklist for owners of seasonal vehicles

  • Make sure you have the correct driving license to drive a motorhome or tow a caravan. You can check this in the Norwegian Road Administration's calculator. Click here.
  • You can read what driving licenses you have on your physical or  digital driving license.
  • Practice before embarking on a long journey. A motorhome takes up more space in traffic and can be more difficult to drive.
  • It may be several months since you last rode a motorcycle. For the first few rides, slow down to let your head and body get used to riding the motorcycle again.
  • Watch your weight! Don't pack too much into the campervan. You must stay within the total weight. If you are unsure, you can weigh your car on one of our scales on the road. Find the nearest weight on  www.vegvesen.no/vekt
  • The motorhome and motorcycle could be stored for several months. Therefore, check the technical condition. If you are unsure, you should make an appointment to visit the workshop.
  • Loose objects can be deadly in the event of a sudden stop or collision. Secure loose items. An unsecured tablet weighs 24 kg when suddenly stopped at 50 km/h.
