Chinese airlines Hainan Airlines will operate passenger and freight flights between China and Norway from spring 2019. This is good news for businessmen and the entire tourism industry. It is planned that the planes will depart three times a week.

High quality

Hainan Airlines offers high quality services. This is evidenced by, among others, winning the “SKYTRAX World's 5-star Airline Rating” for eight years in a row. The operator was also recognized by SKYTRAX in 2017, ranking Chinese airlines among the top 10 worldwide. Ultimately, Hainan Airlines took eighth place in this ranking. This is the first carrier from China to receive this honor.

First regular connection

The China-Norway route, scheduled to start in spring 2019, is the first regular connection between these countries by Chinese airlines. Direct connection Bejing – Oslo will significantly contribute to improving the offer air carriers between China and Europe," says Liu Jichun, vice president of Hainan Airlines. "The new air connection will also stimulate economic cooperation not only between China and Norway, but the entire Nordic region," he adds.

Good news for tourism

According to Øyvind Hasaas - director of Oslo airport - Hainan Airlines is the main carrier in China. For Norway, this means a greater influx of tourists from this country who will have the opportunity to see everything that the Country of the Fjords has to offer. That is why, in his opinion, this is good news not only for entrepreneurs dealing with trade in goods with China, but also for the Norwegian tourism industry.

– “Norway is the most frequently visited Nordic country by Chinese tourists. Moreover, the trend has been developing for several years. From this point of view, it is logical that the renowned Chinese carrier - Hainan Airlines - wants to start regular flights between China and Norway," says Øyvind Hasaas.

A shorter way for seafood from Norway

The Chinese are also showing an increasing demand for Norwegian seafood. In this respect, 2017 was a record year. The opening of a regular air connection means that fish, crabs and other products can be transported faster to shops, e.g. in Bejing. For the Chinese consumer, this means being able to purchase and consume even fresher and better-quality products. In turn, for the Norwegian entrepreneur, this means an opportunity to increase sales.

Airbus A330 – A300 aircraft will operate on the route. They are equipped with 292 seats, including 32 in the "Business" class and 260 in the economy class. Departures from Oslo to Bejing will operate three times a week. The key information for the Norwegian economy is the fact that Hainan Airlines is a large carrier, serving over 1400 connections to 110 cities around the world. Some of the routes on the Norway-China route will be freighter flights and it is expected that thanks to these flights, sales of Norwegian seafood alone will amount to over NOK 200 million per year.
