The UFC 223 gala turned out to be difficult for both Polish women. Karolina Kowalkiewicz won minimally on points with her rival, Felice Herrig. The second Polish player - Joanna Jędrzejczyk - lost, however, for the second time in a row to the American Rose Namajunas. The stake in this fight was the straw weight championship belt. It is worth noting that both fights, in which the Polish players presented themselves, were even, and the result was determined by minimal point differences.
Jędrzejczyk even battle
The fight that was fought between Joanna Jędrzejczyk and Rose Namajunas took place in an interesting context. The Polish woman tried to regain the championship belt in straw weight, which she lost in November 2017 during the UFC 217 gala. Then she lost in the first round as a result of a technical knockout.
The first two rounds of the rematch were controlled by the title defender. Both in the opinion of experts and judges, the beginning of the fight was dictated by Rose Namajunas. Joanna Jędrzejczyk could not cope with the rival's offensive, which shows the excellent tactical preparation of the American.
Although it was the third round that definitely belonged to the Polish woman, the judges assessed the whole fight a bit differently. Glenn Trobridge awarded Poland the second round (in relation to 9 to 10), and in the opinion of Davis Tirelli Jędrzejczyk won the fourth round (in relation to 9 to 10). After 25 minutes of an even fight, the final victory was achieved by Rose Namajunas, who won on points with the Pole in a ratio of 49 to 46.
Minimum win on Kowalkiewicz points
The second starting Pole, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, who clashed with Felice Herrig, was the winner. The fight was extremely balanced throughout all the rounds, although in the first installment it was the Pole who sent her rival to the boards. In turn, the second and third rounds brought stand-up clashes. A dangerous situation for the Polish competitor took place in the last minutes of the fight, in which she was foggy after the American's successful combination. However, she managed to limp her rival, thanks to which she survived the game, which was decided in favor of the player from Łódź, although the decision was not unanimous.
It is worth noting that Karolina Kowalkiewicz won the second match in a row in the UFC and it was overall the twelfth win in professional MMA fights. Thus, she came closer to the fight, the stake of which will be the straw weight championship belt. It is currently in the possession of Rose Namajunas.
