After deciding to register your own business in Norway, you may receive a letter with an invoice for an optional entry in the company directory. Equally often, there are calls from companies organizing occupational health and safety training, whose representatives will insist that this is what you need. What's worth it know about the costs associated with setting up a company in Norway, and what expenses you don't have to incur?

Costs of registering a company in Norway

Assuming company in Norway, first of all, you must obtain an entry in the Register of Business Entities (Enhetsregister). For small companies, this is the only valid entry. This activity is exempt from any stamp duty.

Register of Enterprises

A fee is charged for the entry into the Register of Companies (nor. Foretaksregister). Although the vast majority of companies do not have to be included in it, there are certain types of activities that are subject to such an obligation. This applies to all types of companies, sole proprietorships with more than 5 employees, as well as all kinds of trading companies. There is a fee for entry into this register of DKK 2 if the application is submitted electronically and DKK 265 if registration is done on a paper form. Optionally, this cost should be increased by the price of the company's service, which will provide the entrepreneur with the necessary formalities.

Construction and cleaning company fees

However, when registering a construction or cleaning company, it becomes necessary to obtain an HMS trade card. For a construction company, each byggekort identifier will cost you DKK 105,25, and for a cleaning contractor, each renholdskort ID will cost you DKK 147,02.

. Hiring employees

An additional cost that will have to be incurred is when the company hires employees. Then its owner will be obliged to undergo health and safety courses, which entails an expense of at least 1 490 kr. At the same time, it is worth being aware that the Norwegian Labor Inspectorate (nor. Arbeitdstilsynet) has recently increased the number of inspections. This institution verifies, inter alia, having health and safety courses.

In addition, in the case of construction companies employing employees, there is an additional obligation. It is a fee paid to RVO - an institution that cares about safety and working conditions on construction sites. This amount depends on the employment status and amounts to 0,03% of the gross income of the employed persons. The lowest possible amount is the equivalent of 250 kr.

What are entrepreneurs most often tricked into?

It is worth knowing that registering a company in Norway involves many calls from companies trying to sell unnecessary services. Polish entrepreneurs who do not know the language very well often agree to the terms of cooperation by phone. The most common services offered are:

- health and safety training for sole proprietorships that do not employ anyone

– anus HMS course, when not required

- entry of the company in the register of entrepreneurs, which is not required by law

- emergency assistance or helicopter transport services within the municipality

The above catalog is not closed. The basic precautionary principle is not to consent to the conclusion of a contract by telephone. Especially if it is not fully known what it really concerns. It is also not recommended to send invoiced transfers to companies you've never heard of before.
