The UN praises Norway

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres made himself known positive about Norway. He emphasized its importance in guaranteeing security in the international arena. However, he added that he could not guarantee her a seat on the Security Council. The Norwegian authorities are trying to take a seat in this body, as the selection of representatives for 2020-2021 is ongoing.

The Secretary General makes no promises

Antonio Guterres, acting as UN Secretary General, visited Oslo last Tuesday. There he participated in the Oslo Forum, the theme of which was world security. By the way, he met with the Prime Minister of Norway - Erna Solberg.

During the conversation, Guterres emphasized the importance of Norway for maintaining world peace. He claims that it is one of the leading countries in working to increase the level of humanitarianism and sustainable development. He also added that it is he who personally decides on the members of the Security Council. Permanent members have competences in this area this organ. It is these countries that decide on the composition of the Interim Security Council for 2021-2022.

January 1, 2021 Norway officially took a seat on the United Nations Security Council. Together with 14 other countries, he will be responsible for the United Nations' efforts to preserve peace and security over the next two years.
