– It's a special day. We support the recommendations of the Directorate of Health and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, according to which Covid-19 no longer meets the criteria of the Infection Control Act for classification as an infectious disease dangerous to society. This is the normalization foreseen in the government's strategy and emergency plan, says Minister of Health and Care Ingvild Kjerkol.

Repeals Covid-19 regulations

Norwegian Directorate of Health and FHI determine that the classification of covid-19 as an infectious disease dangerous to the public is no longer necessary for infection control.

At the same time, the ministry decided to... repeal of covid-19 regulations (lovdata.no) . This regulation was adopted on March 27, 2020 and was amended approximately 300 times over the course of two years.

The regulations specifically regulated various infection control measures, which were adapted during the pandemic. Most of the provisions of the regulation were repealed in 2022. However, the following remain: special infection control rules in Svalbard.

Consequences for patients

For patients, the change in regulations means that, as with other infections respiratory system must pay a fee in the form of an own contribution for a medical consultation. Thus, they lose the right to free tests and treatment in connection with Covid-19. Therefore, covid-19 currently belongs to the same category as influenza and the RSV virus.

Paxlovid, which reduces the risk of severe disease from covid-19 in people at high risk of severe disease, will continue to be available free of charge until April 1, 2025.
