There is a growing fear of the effects of drought that could affect the Polish economy. Although economists reassure us that we are unlikely to face a drastic increase in prices, the situation of some farms may require government assistance, to which Prime Minister Morawiecki has committed.

Drought and increases in Polish stores

There is a shortage of water throughout the country, which in turn leads to a decrease in the harvest of cereals and insufficient plant growth. While grain volumes nearly reached 32 million tonnes last year, the National Center for Agriculture estimates that this year will drop by at least 5 million.

Almost 30% of crops are affected by drought

The drought affected almost 30% of Polish agricultural crops, which to some extent may affect market prices - thus, on the portfolio of every Pole. For now, however, the prices are not pushing up - if the value of Polish grain turned out to be too high, we would certainly import them from abroad. The slight increase in prices may result rather from the increase in transport costs.

Morawiecki undertook to support farmers

For this reason, the problem of drought concerns mainly the farmers themselves, whom Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki undertook to help. We are talking about extensions and cancellations of their obligations, and about all forms of aid that will become clear after a careful analysis of the situation in Polish fields. The prime minister has announced that he will cooperate with the authorities of the towns affected by the drought and will certainly not leave the citizens on their own.
