Military fighter plane crash

Around 2:00 am, a fighter belonging to the Malbork Tactical Air Base - MIG-29 crashed in the agricultural fields in the village of Sakówko (Warmian-Masurian District). The exact cause of the tragedy is determined by the State Aviation Accident Investigation Commission. Although the pilot of the machine catapulted, unfortunately he did not survive the accident. The man was found dead about 200 meters from the wreckage.

Too high speed and too low altitude

According to Reserve Major Michał Fiszer, the probable cause of death could be catapulting at high speed from too low an altitude. The Ministry of National Defense informed that it was an experienced pilot who had flown over 800 hours in the air, including 500 on the MIG-29. The soldier's family was immediately provided with psychological help, and President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki expressed condolences to its members.

Ten Fire Brigades

As many as ten units of the Fire Service were working at the scene of the accident, notified by a random person passing the crash site. After the fire was extinguished, the site was secured by the gendarmerie and the prosecutor's office investigating the genesis of the accident. An autopsy of the man piloting the plane was also commissioned.

MIG-29 has been in the Polish Army for 30 years

Soviet and Russian fighters have been serving in the Polish army for almost 30 years. Interestingly, this is not the only incident in which MIG was involved. The last accident took place in December last year, when there was a crash near Mińsk Mazowiecki, but then the pilot managed to save his life. The only positive aspect of the tragedy is the fact that apart from the pilot, there are no others accident victims. The MIG-29 crashed just 300 meters from residential buildings.
