– Norway is a world-class cheese nation. We would like to congratulate Gangstad gårdsysteri on the winner and thank you for your contribution to ensuring that Norway can produce the highest quality cheeses. Since 2000, there has been a huge development in cheese production in Norway, both in terms of quality and variety. It is thanks to our creative and skilled cheese producers that Norway has become the cheese country we are today, says Minister of Agriculture and Food Geir Pollestad.

Norway is hosting the World Cheese Awards for the second time, and cheese lovers from around the world are flocking to Trondheim this weekend. This year, 293 Norwegian cheeses from 71 cheese producers were registered.

More about the World Cheese Awards

4502 cheeses took part in the competition, from which approximately one hundred "Supergold" cheeses were selected. In the semi-final, they were presented to the final judges. This is a carefully selected judging panel of 16 international cheese experts. Each of them chose their favorite, which went to the final. The judges then taste all the cheeses again and award each one a single score - from 0 to 7. The one with the highest total won the title of "Best Cheese in the World", which this year was a blue cheese from Gangstad Gårdsysteri on Inderøy in Trøndelag.
