The Warsaw Uprising was considered unnecessary by some historians, and by many it became a symbol of the heroic struggle for Poland's freedom. It broke out on August 1, 1944, and the armed withdrawal lasted until October 3, 1944. Lonely insurgent units fought with the overwhelming German forces for 63 days.

The Warsaw Uprising - historical significance

Some historians claim that the Warsaw Uprising should not have taken place. Despite critical voices, it was of great historical importance. It was not only about the heroic struggle against the forces of Nazi Germany, which at that time were ransacking Poland. The purpose of this armed speech was to raise the importance of the Polish Government-in-Exile and to oppose Stalin's attempts to sovietise and vassal Poland. The decision to start the Operation "Storm" was made after it became clear that it would not be the troops of the Western allies that would liberate Poland from occupation. This was the task of the Red Army entering our territory, which was associated with serious political consequences.

Stalin's Dangerous Moves

The biggest reservations were raised by the questioning of Poland's eastern borders with the USSR by Stalin. He also made efforts to inspire political centers that were competitive with the Polish Government-in-Exile. This threatened not only with the loss of the eastern lands that were part of Poland before the war. This posed a serious threat to the sovereignty of our homeland. As it turned out later, these fears were fully justified.

The fall of the Uprising

The Warsaw Uprising at the end of September 1944 as a result of a complex surrender. Negotiations on this matter were completed at midnight on October 3rd, hence the issue of determining the actual date of surrender is a controversial issue. It was accepted in the official version that it took place on October 2, 1944.
