While no serious accident involving these animals has been reported so far, Norwegian authorities are cautioning drivers to be especially vigilant in shaded areas.

Record heat in Norway is bothering animals
"It's been very hot weeks in northern Norway," Tore Lysberg of the Norwegian Road Administration tells AFP. "Animals are looking for colder places to shelter from the sun." This applies to both reindeer and sheep. They find a respite in road tunnels and other shaded places.

This is nothing new
This phenomenon is nothing new. However, it can increase in intensity considering record heat in Norway. The problem especially affects northern areas, where temperatures of close to 32 degrees Celsius are extremely rare. According to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, there have already been 12 nights in the north of the country that can be classified as "tropical". According to the Norwegian Road Administration, no serious accidents involving reindeer have been reported so far.
