DAB in Norway. The Norwegian Transport Association (NLF) is frustrated with the introduction of the DAB system in Norway. Politicians from the Center Party are also critical of these changes. Without proper preparation
– In our opinion, the transition to the DAB system in Norway was carried out incorrectly and without a sufficiently long transition period – says Geir A. Mo, president of NLF, in an interview with ABC Nyheter – Removing problems related to the lack of coverage in the way we experienced can be described as “arrogant,” he adds.
NLF is a non-governmental organization that currently associates 4. members with over 15 heavy goods vehicles. From the very beginning, they criticized the idea of switching off FM radio reception in favor of the DAB system.

The leader of the Centrum Party (norw. Sentrepartie, w skr. Sp) - Trygve Slagsvold Vedum - intends to ask the Storting about the costs of switching to the DAB system in Norway. Representatives of this political organization are concerned that since the complete switch-off of the transmitters in the FM system, radio broadcasters have already lost over 309 listeners. The leader of Patria Centrum is convinced that the politicians who voted for such a solution will beat their breasts and allow FM broadcasting again.

Family and Culture Committee: the exclusion of FM was necessary
Kristin Ørmen Johnsen - Chairwoman of the Family and Culture Committee - argues that it was necessary to make a decision to completely switch to DAB in Norway. In her opinion, the FM system offered too few possibilities and failed to meet the challenges facing radio broadcasters. There has been a technological advance and its logical consequence has been to completely disable the FM transmitters.

The switch to DAB was planned from 2011
The digitization of the radio started in 2011. During the vote, only the Progress Party voted against the complete shutdown of the FM system in December 2017. Since then, the number of listeners has been steadily declining. In May 2018, the number of listeners to the radio every day was only 56% (in 2016 it was 68%). The average daily time the radio was on also dropped from 85 minutes a day in 2016 to 73 minutes in May 2018. Perhaps time is required for the DAB system to function properly. The actions of the Storting in this matter should be followed carefully. Ultimately, radio is the best source of information for all drivers, not just professional drivers.
