Electronic cigarettes entered the market a few years ago and took over quite quickly. Is it really worth replacing a cigarette that we all know? Which version is healthier?

Electronic cigarettes versus traditional ones

E-cigarettes have become an alternative for those who want to quit smoking, but also take care of their health to a greater extent. Professor Andrzej Sobczak from the Department of Chemical Harms and Genetic Toxicology of the Institute of Occupational Medicine and Environmental Health in Sosnowiec, claims that electronic cigarettes are less harmful than ordinary cigarettes, which does not mean that they are not at all.

The number of harmful substances

A person who smokes ordinary cigarettes should know that one has 5600 various chemical compounds, 400 of which are harmful to their health. Electronic cigarettes contain water, propylene glycol or glycerin, as well as a fragrance, which are to be approved for use in cosmetic and food products. It is important to emphasize that a very small amount of e-cigarette ingredients is harmful to humans. In addition, there is no carbon monoxide in it, which hinders the process of breathing and the functioning of the cardiovascular system.

Less risk of developing a tumor

We have known for a long time that cigarette smoking increases the risk of developing laryngeal and lung cancer. In 2016, drastic pictures of the effects of smoking appeared on cigarette packets. However, this still does not deter tobacco addicts. From the research carried out by prof. Sobczak, it follows that by smoking an e-cigarette, we inhale as many as seven times less carcinogenic substances.

The risk of smoking electronic cigarettes

E-cigarettes appeared on the market relatively recently, in 2003. During this time, a number of studies were conducted that showed several negative effects of smoking them. They can cause emphysema and overactivity of the respiratory tract, liquid (a tool that evaporates while smoking an e-cigarette), and its composition, is not as much controlled as other medical devices, and it also contains nicotine, and this is known to be strongly addictive.

The best choice

The position of science and doctors is one thing - it is healthy not to smoke. The choice, however, is always up to us.
