All sick persons who are temporarily unable to perform their work are entitled to sickness benefits in Norway. However, NAV provided for specific conditions for individual professional groups. For example, farmers have different privileges, and seamen or fishermen have other privileges.
Sickness benefit in Norway for farmers and reindeer breeders
Sickness benefit in Norway for farmers and reindeer breeders can be paid, despite the fact that they are operating with economic characteristics. NAV may grant you an allowance equal to 100% of your wage rate for 17 calendar days. The condition is, however, that you qualify as a farmer or reindeer breeder. For this to happen, you are required to document income from agriculture or breeding at the level of at least 8. NOK in the previous calendar year.

Norway sickness benefit for seafarers
The rules for granting entitlement to Illness Benefit for seafarers are the same as for other employees. However, there are two differences as follows:
- you are entitled to the benefit even if you have worked for less than 4 weeks as a seafarer,
- you are entitled to the benefit even if, despite your inability to work as a seafarer, you can work in another profession.

Sickness benefit for fishermen
Norway's sickness benefit is also paid to fishermen who are registered in the Norwegian Fisheries Register (norw. Fiskermanntallet). People working in this profession are entitled to 100% coverage of the wage rate from the first day of illness until its termination. To qualify for unemployment benefit, they may work less than 4 weeks.
Sickness benefits for former officers
If you have finished serving in the military or civilian corps and are still working, you retain the same rights to sickness benefits as all other employees. The difference is that you do not have to work 4 weeks to be able to take advantage of this benefit - you acquire the rights on the first day after demobilization.

The scheme for recognizing these privileges applies to all officers who have finished their service in:
- The National Armed Forces,
- Military Academies,
- auxiliary police departments.
Temporary unemployment benefit
Sickness benefits in Norway may also be granted to people who have been unemployed for less than a month and who have worked additionally for less than 4 weeks. In this case, in the application to NAV you should document that as a result of illness you have lost the possibility of earning income at the 1G level.

In this case, the office takes into account all benefits you received in the base period. These can be, for example, unemployment benefit, sickness benefit, allowances and training vouchers, nursing allowances, as well as parental and pregnancy benefits. Under these circumstances, NAV may entitle you to 65% of the reported income, but only after the 15th day of illness.
People between 62 and 70 years of age
People between the ages of 62 and 70 are entitled to Illness Benefit, regardless of whether they are retired or not. Additionally, after the age of 67, the sickness benefit in Norway may be extended to 60 days, provided, however, that a minimum income of 2G is achieved. After the age of 70, you are not entitled to this benefit.

Sickness benefit and an allowance for the disabled
NAV also provides for the possibility of combining sickness allowance with a disabled allowance. In this case, only your earnings will be used to calculate the amount of the benefit. The Office assumes that the sickness allowance is to be the same supplement to the disability allowance as the work performed.
