The legend of the Polish cabaret scene, namely Kabaret Starszych Panów, celebrated its 60th anniversary of its first television broadcast.

60 years have passed

Exactly on October 16, 1958, the first episode of Kabaret Starszych Panów was broadcast. It cannot be denied that the program that was created by Jerzy Wasowski and Jeremy Przybora has become a legend that everyone remembers fondly to this day. The program was very popular, and the threads that were discussed in it were a kind of outlet for Przybora's longing. As he himself used to say, "I missed elegance and a decor different from the existing one, and while writing texts for the Cabaret, I started to vent this longing."

"Evening I"

At the time when Kabaret Starszych Panów was founded, there weren't many forms of entertainment, certainly not such, and it certainly wasn't shown on TV quite often. In 1958, when Kabaret made its debut, viewers could watch only four programs on TV, half of which were purely informational programs. The first episode of the Young Gentlemen Cabaret took place at 20:30 and was called "Evening I".

Different world

Przybora and Wasowski's program quickly gained popularity. In a very short time, thousands of Poles gathered in front of the TV screen to watch another episode of Cabaret Młodych Panów. What was the reason for this? Lyrical, poetic and, above all, funny songs, performed by a wonderful duo of two men wearing top hats. The main and greatest advantage of this program was the presentation of a completely different world than the one it accompanied Poles every day in Poland People's Republic.

The perfect duo

The cabaret was made up of two wonderful men who perfectly complemented their artistic skills. Przybora was responsible for the lyrics and Wasowski was responsible for the melody. It cannot be denied that their work accompanies us to this day. They are the authors of hits that each of us can hum, e.g. The life of an old man is joyful be Because there is sex in me. The name of the cabaret had nothing to do with the age of the men as they were 43 (Przybora) and 45 (Wasowski) years old.

Cabaret guests

The founders of Kabaret always played the main role in each episode, but the viewers could often count on great guests of the episode. In Kabaret we could see, among others, Krystyna Sienkiewicz, Bohdan Łazuka or Irena Kwiatkowska. The broadcast of the program lasted 8 years in total. During this time, viewers could enjoy 16 episodes. The last one aired on July 22, 1966.
