Childcare in Norway - what do you need to remember?

When deciding to work and live in the Kingdom, it is worth knowing what childcare in Norway looks like from a legal point of view. Norwegian services are much more sensitive to neglect or educational irregularities than in Poland. The institution responsible for overseeing this sphere of private life is the Office for the Protection of Children's Rights (norw. Child welfare).

Childcare in Norway

Childcare in Norway significantly deviates from the standards that prevail in Poland. It is important to be aware that many culturally conditioned activities can have serious consequences in this country. They may even be signs of a child's behavior that do not indicate use physical violence. Interest Child welfare the situation in the family may arise, for example, after suspecting the following issues:

  • use of physical violence,
  • use of non-physical violence,
  • being under the care of adults who are under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants,
  • leaving the child unattended,
  • bad conditions at home,
  • neglect in treatment and education.

Who can report irregularities?

A significant difference in deciding what it looks like childcare in Norway is the fact that any irregularities can be reported by anyone. Informing Child welfare about inappropriate family attitudes lie especially in the competence of schools, nurses, doctors, and even neighbors or other interested persons.

However, it is worth knowing that public schools, kindergartens and other pedagogical and psychological services are obliged to try to improve the child's situation. Barnevernet duties

After receiving the notification, Child welfare is obliged to initiate the verification procedure at the latest 3 miesiące from the notification. However, all preventive measures must be implemented at the latest 6 weeks after the end of the investigation. The detailed scope of competence of this Office is regulated by the Act on the Protection of the Rights of the Child of July 17, 1992 (norw. Barnevernloven, Lov av 17 Jul 1992 No. 100).

What is the procedure?

After receiving the notification, Child welfare has the right to summon parents to appear for an explanatory interview. Officials can also send you a notice, for example to visit your home with the police. It's good to know that as a parent You have the right to for access to the report that relates to the case.

Placing a child outside the family home is a measure ultimatewhat Child welfare can apply. Such action must be preceded by decision, published by Provincial Commission (Norwegian fylkesnenda). The parents have the right to be present during the examination of the matter, but they cannot be present during the voting and deliberation. An appeal against the Commission's decision may be lodged with the court of first instance.

Worth remembering

It is worth noting that childcare in Norway it must be held in the same way, regardless of the country of origin. Norwegian law is enforced regardless of whether the suspicion of child neglect is committed in a Norwegian or Polish family.
