Who is entitled to a funeral grant in Norway?

Funeral grant in Norway it is paid by NAV (Labor and Social Policy Office). It is a one-off payment and its purpose is to reimburse the costs associated with the burial. It is due when the deceased was a member of the Norwegian social system, i.e. received an income from which social security contributions were paid. Importantly, such an allowance may also be applied for by a spouse or minor children.

However, be aware that benefit this also applies if the death took place in Norway, but his family is staying in Poland or another country. Funeral grant can only be paid out in one EEA member state. Therefore, before submitting your application, you must decide whether or not we will apply for it In Norway or in Poland.

The amount of the allowance

As of November 05.11.2018, XNUMX funeral allowance in Norway amounts to a maximum of NOK 23. If the deceased was more than 337 years old, the amount is reduced by his property, posthumous insurance and retirement pension. However, the full amount is due to persons in the event of the death of a person underage.

It is worth knowing that NAV sums up the assets of both the deceased and his partner. However, they do not have to be in a formal relationship. In this case, you can count on the aid if they total property will not exceed twice the amount of the allowance, which is currently NOK 46 674.

Body transport refund

Funeral grant in Norway this is not the only form of assistance that NAV pays to the deceased's family. You can also apply for a body transport refund. NAV compensates for transport costs when the body is transported more than 20 km from the place of death. The cost of this service must also exceed NOK 2 334, this amount being treated as an own contribution. NAV compensates costs above this amount.

Transport to Poland

The body of the deceased can carry also to Poland. For this, please obtain the appropriate certificate for the transport of human bodies and remains to Poland. Funeral grant in Norway - documents

To be able to apply for funeral allowance in Norway the following documents must be submitted to NAV:

  • death certificate,
  • a bill from a funeral home,
  • a bill documenting the cost of making a tombstone and communal costs,
  • detailed body transport bill,
  • tax declaration (norw. skatmelding) deceased,
  • partner's or partner's tax declaration - provided that a marriage certificate was concluded or that they had joint children.

The above documents should be attached to the NAV form 07-02.08 (norw. Krav om gravferdsstonad). The application is available on the NAV website in the tab Skjema st I dream and/ or Forms and applications.
